If anyone has a Paris summer day to relax wandering through a cultural exposition that will touch your heart and your spirit, I highly recommend visiting the Pierre Berge - Yves Saint Laurent Foundation at 5 Avenue Marceau.
For its 8th exhibition, the Pierre Berge - Yves Saint Laurent Foundation has chosen to present A Moroccan Passion. 36 exquisite kaftans dating from the 18th to the 20th centuries as well as numerous embroideries and jewellery that bear witness to the quality of Moroccan art. It could be said that Yves Saint Laurent's deepest inspiration came from the lights and colours of Morocco. On display are also the contemporary interpretations offered by local designer Tamy Tazi and Yves Saint-Laurent himself.
"Despite knowing lights and colours of Northern Africa, it was only later, when I discovered Morocco, that I figured out that my chromatism perfectly matched the one of zelliges, zouacs ...of the Kaftans. I owe my boldness to this country. I feel like this culture has become my own culture: I wasn´t simply content of importing it, but I also wanted to integrate, transform and adapt the heritage of Morocco".
These objects are presented in a re-creation of Marrakech's famous Majorelle Garden and reflect the richness and importance of Morocco's heritage. The Pierre Berge - Yves Saint Laurent foundation was opened to the public on the 10th March 2004; It was established to prolong the history of the House of Yves Saint Laurent, whose haute couture operations ceased on 31 October 2002.
Today the Foundation conserves the 5,000 Haute Couture garments and the 15,000 accessories, sketches and assorted objects that bear witness to 40 years of Yves Saint Laurent's creativity.
The intimacy of the exposition and the personal stories shared by the personal staff of Yves Saint Laurent highlighted his kindness, empathy and ingenuity of artistic genius. This was a truly magnificent experience.
