SS 09 Menswear - Classics, Comfort and Colour (LINK)

As a swimwear designer living between London and Paris and constantly surrounded by the best these two great cities of Haute Couture have to offer, I have to confess to one addiction - that of Menswear. I can't walk down a street without noticing the colours, the textures or the shoes!
Over the last two weeks both Milan and Paris Spring/Summer Menswear Collections have taken to the runways and finally we are seeing one clear trend - classics, comfort and colour.
Peter Pan collars and soft 'want to touch' fabrics contrasted against vivid purple hues and espadrilles in Dries Van Noten's show whilst both Calvin Klein and Louis Vuitton (Paul Elbers) delivered hot pink tuxedo styles jackets over shorts for a more casual look.
Versace and Burberry (Christopher Bailey) also finally found an eccentric casual that works with crumpled classics in woody tones. I particularly loved the long button up low v neck cardie and chocolate leather man bag from Burberry. Elber Albaz for Lanvin also showcased a more relaxed approach with casually knotted scarves on low neck light weight cardis.
Both Dior and Burberry paid homage to a more feminine inspired look with detailed cutouts providing an interesting twist to the classic white business collared shirt.
However, I can never walk past Kenzo who is always the more refreshing with a bold palette of greens, plums, golds, sky and navy blues in a more bohemian style. I love the roman sandles, the contrasting textures of the tuxedo plum vest, embellished singlet in golds, blues and beige over plum knee length shorts. The aviator and man bag still holds its place firm on the runway as the key accessories for him this season and its clear that for headwear it appears that anything goes!
To all the European men that will grace my vision this Spring/Summer, these designers are homage to the fact that there is definitely no excuse for sloppy shorts and shirts. This summer there is a clear vision of classics, comfort and colour!
